A much-needed escape: Finding peace in Hervey Bay

Ros and I decided to take a weekend escape to Hervey Bay. It was one of those beautiful, Queensland weekends from the 13th to the 16th, filled with good company, great food, and moments that stick with you.

On our way from Brisbane, we made a stop at a lookout near the Glasshouse Mountains. The view was breathtaking, a perfect reminder of the natural beauty that surrounds us. It was the kind of peaceful moment that helps you pause and just appreciate the little things.

During our time in Hervey Bay, we enjoyed dinner at a lovely seafood restaurant one night. The prawns were fresh, the seafood spread was delicious, and we topped it all off with churros and other items for dessert. After dinner, we strolled around the harbour, taking in the coastal breeze before heading back.

The next morning, we found a cozy cafe for breakfast and then wandered through some local markets. One of my favorite moments was capturing a photo in front of some painted angel wings—it felt symbolic, a reminder of strength and hope.

That evening, we had dinner with our friends, Brian and Gaylea, and their two sons. They treated us to a feast of mud crab, prawns, chips, and fish, a true Queensland seafood banquet. We shared laughs, stories, and the kind of camaraderie that makes gatherings special.

On our last day, we explored Hervey Bay a bit more. We stumbled upon a cocktail bar where we played pool, enjoyed a few drinks, and relaxed with some tasty bites. It was one of those afternoons that just flowed effortlessly.

The next day, we made our way home, feeling grateful for the time away. It was a simple getaway, but these moments become even more precious as I navigate this new chapter with pancreatic cancer. I cherish every chance to connect with friends and enjoy life’s little joys.
